In memory of Diana Phillips (1938-2021)

Diana Phillips (20 August 1938 – 16 November 2021) of Valley, Anglesey and a founding trustee of The Anna Phillips Foundation, after a short illness passed away in Bangor, Gwynedd on 16 November 2021, aged 83.

The trustees pay a timeless tribute to Diana Phillips’s deep commitment to and wholehearted support and inspiration for the work of the Foundation. After the tragic loss of her granddaughter Anna in 2015, Diana played a key role in founding the registered charity in 2019, which helps people with trauma related mental health challenges through facilitating activities in nature.

Diana followed developments very closely and gave very wise and knowledgeable advice to the other trustees as the charity made progress. She played a major role in helping to gradually transform Ty Anna from a small agricultural holding to a developing woodland with a growing and enriched biodiversity.

Diana was born on the family farm, Bod Deiniol, near Llantrisant on Anglesey in August 1938, the ninth of ten children to David Owen Davies (originally Baclaw, Conwy Valley) and Matilda Davies (nee Evans)(originally Carneddi, Bethesda).

Recalling the sense of freedom growing up on a farm, and recounting seeing her father plant oak and apple trees in the garden below the farmhouse, Diana would later in her life while living in Gorad, Valley convey these memories to her own children and grandchildren.

A garden of tranquillity is being created in Diana Phillips’s memory next to the orchard at Ty Anna, as a lasting monument to her inspiration and commitment to the values of compassion, simplicity and justice.
