The Welsh Government seeks your views as it updates the National Strategy to tackle violence against women and domestic abuse in all its forms.
In order to make Wales a better place to live, the Welsh Government seeks to facilitate an environment where people feel safe, whether in their own home, at work or in their community.
Ending violence and abuse is a significant part of the overall strategy. In particular, this means ending :
- violence against women and girls
- domestic abuse
- sexual violence
While most who abuse others are men, there are also women who abuse other adults or children. We must also tackle the profound trauma children suffer when they witness violence in the home, or experience the other forms of childhood abuse.
What does the Welsh Government want to do?
Make people more aware of the problem, and challenge their view about what is acceptable behaviour.
Help children and young people understand what is safe and healthy in a relationship, and what is abusive.
Working with people who abuse others, and to get them to change their behaviour.
Training professionals so they can help people who suffer abuse.
Provide support services for the victims of abuse when they need it.
Early intervention to stop abuse.
The welsh Government aims:
- to set up a National Partnership Board to cover the whole of Wales.
- to enable smaller, local groups to tackle street and workplace harassment.
- to set national standards for services across the whole of Wales, and introduce a range of indicators to measure progress.
- to promote healthy relationships at school and to support families and vulnerable people.
- to give survivors of abuse a say in shaping the new standards and services.
- to consider the needs of older people, children, Asian, Black and minority ethnic people, the LGBT community and people with a disability.

The deadline for the consultation is 1 February 2022.
The overall approach has to be one which is trauma informed because feeling safe and being able to trust others is a fundamental human need and the foundation of personal freedom and dignity.
